Seymour Kushner: All Jazzed Up

Jazz is, in many ways, the quintessential style of American music. In fact, it has been likened to baseball for its made-in-America appeal. Seymour Kushner is a man who loves music from all different parts of the world—including Latin, Irish, and Middle Eastern music—but that doesn’t prevent him from loving this most American of music. In fact, jazz is one of his favorites, and he is proud to say he has witnessed live jazz shows at some of the nations most storied jazz clubs.

Here’s just a sampling of some of the excellent venues at which Seymour Kushner has seen and heard jazz performed:

• The Blue Note. This is actually a chain of jazz and blues clubs, but the original is located in the Greenwich Village area of New York. Additional locations are spread out all over the world, including venues in Japan and Italy. There used to be one in Seoul, South Korea!
• The Village Vanguard is another famous club, also located in Greenwich Village. It opened in 1935, and originally housed performances ranging from folk music to beat poetry! Since the late 1950’s, however, the format has been consistent—all jazz, all the time. Some of the most famous concert recordings in jazz history were recorded in this venue!
• The Jazz Standard, yet another famous jazz and blues club!

Is jazz the only kind of music that Seymour Kushner loves? By no means. We have already shed light on his love of music from different parts of the world, ranging from Irish balladry to Latin folk forms. And elsewhere on this page we have discussed his great love of dance music. Plus, Seymour Kushner has a soft spot for orchestral music and also for rock; he has seen Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, and Elton John, up close and personal!

But certainly, jazz has a special place in his heart, and he treasures the many great jazz shows he has witnessed at these storied clubs. They are, after all, some of the finest music venues in all the world, and Seymour Kushner has enjoyed his experiences in each and every one of them!
